[Lucy Horton] is an 18 year-old singer/songwriter from Seattle, Washington. Her music is whimsical, articulate, and transcends time. I love the maturity in her voice, and how she can easily transition between a ballad, and her more up-beat songs. Above all else, Lucy is with out a doubt going places.

I met up with Lucy a few weeks ago over coffee and we chatted about graduation, her next album, and what it has taken to get to where she is today. Her first album [Lucy Sings] is available on iTunes and CD Baby. It has a very [Regina Spektor] feel to it. I love the up-beat “Hard to Get” single off of Lucy’s album. It is very light, and has a catchy tune that is fun to sing along to. Another favorite is “Lover’s List” which was written about one of Lucy’s friends. Lucy talked a bit about songwriting, and how she does it. At first Lucy used to write songs mostly about personal experience, and they would come to her quickly – in the heat of the moment. These days she tries to write songs about her friends, or experiences that other people can relate to. She wants to create music that her audience can relate to on a personal level.

Lucy is working on her next album that she hopes to finish by the end of the year. Her next album will have more of a [Norah Jones] vibe to it – something I think Lucy will pull off well – and that her audience will love too.

Besides music and songwriting, Lucy loves math and has a strong interest in PR (Public Relations). She dreams of being a Producer, writing music and scoring movies! Above all else, Lucy’s true passion and calling is writing. She writes all her own songs, and has gotten quite good at working on new material. I really can’t wait for her next album to be released!!

Lucy will be staying in Seattle this fall to attend the University of Washington. I am excited for her to stick around town, and work on her music. Hopefully you can catch her at The Moore or The Triple Door – her dream venues!!

Check out Lucy Horton on [Facebook] and [Myspace] and be sure to download her EP on [CD Baby] or [iTunes]
